Host of the very first Academy Awards in 1929, the Hollywood Roosevelt reigns as one of the most iconic hotels in America. Step over the Walk of Fame to enter the glamorous lobby — a temple to the Golden Age of Hollywood, with a tiered fountain, dramatic chandelier, stunning painted ceiling, and marble columns. You're in the L.A. hideaway where Marilyn, Charlie Chaplin, and Clark Gable felt perfectly at home. Impeccably presented guestrooms and suites pay homage to the stars of yesteryear while entertaining the biggest names of today.

DOUBLE PLAY

Adjusting to the recession and its effects on the hotel industry, Nexplay assists with
budgetary and security solutions for increased efficiency and safety.

The Challenge

When the hotel industry was hit with the recession of 2009, Hotels were forced to cut costs to address the steep drop in domestic and international travel.  Moving from an internal I.T. Department to an outsourced managed services model was proposed to reduce maintenance & operational costs while increasing ROI. Nexplay was engaged to fully manage the hotel with a full time onsite engineer and remote helpdesk staff to assist with any overflow support needs.

The hotel, located at the heart of Hollywood Boulevard experiences a high volume of constant foot traffic entering and exiting the hotel. With recent reports of vagrancy jumping 12% from 2018, hotel management was keen on implementing additional security measures to scale with potentially increased risks and enhance safety for the property, guests, and employees. Nexplay proposed greater visual coverage and emergency response tools, installing an additional 40 state-of-the art cameras and high-tech panic stations throughout its parking structure.

The Solution

The Hollywood Roosevelt was able to save significantly on I.T. labor costs by outsourcing its operations to Nexplay; the model was ideal for the large property and its many revenue centers and events. Nexplay’s team was able to quickly augment onsite labor for larger functions & special I.T. projects while scaling back to normal staffing levels as necessary. The team also allocated remote on-call help desk specialists to support unexpected resource needs and high volume ticket requests, ensuring response times were not impacted.

Working hand in hand with HR and security, Nexplay installed Openeye cameras in over 40 locations throughout the property and 15 Code Blue Panic Stations in the parking garage. The technology investment resulted in a reduction of Roosevelt’s insurance premiums by 10%, provided security staff expanded visibility throughout the property, and boosted employee confidence in management’s stance on the importance of staff and guest safety.

Nexplay’s managing partners continue to be actively involved in the 3/5/7 year capital budgeting at the request of the owners, and have been guiding the Roosevelt’s I.T. directive over the last 11 years.
